Last Saturday, November 16th, a group of international students have had the opportunity to take part in a guided city tour in Ulm. The tour took us through the picturesque old town and the impressive Ulm Minster, where we were not only able to admire the sights of the city, but also learn exciting stories and background information. ASSIST Cooking Event #2
What a great evening! It’s Saturday night in the spacious kitchen of the Ulm Family Education Centre. It smells delicious and tempting. The potatoes are steaming away in the steamers and the veg meat is roasting in the oven. Young women and men are cutting vegetables and kneading dough. We’re in the middle of the second ASSIST cooking event and we’re taking a look inside some of the pots.
On 26.10.24, International Students from the UNI-Ulm, THU and HNU coming from 15 different countries, accompanied by senior consultants from ASSIST, made their way from Ulm to Schaffhausen to explore the beautiful Swiss region and the impressive Rhine Falls together. The group consisted of people from a wide range of cultures, which made the trip particularly varied and enriching. Even the journey together provided an opportunity to exchange initial impressions and get in the mood for the destination.

On October 12th we started with a group of 10 students to our excursion to the city of Kirchheim unter Teck – a medieval city between Ulm and Stuttgart. We took the overcrowded train (full of people visiting the Wasen, the Stuttgart small „Oktoberfest“).

The ASSISt-Team is pleased to offer you an excursion on Saturday 6th July 2024 to Zwiefalten and the Wimsen Cave.
During this excursion you experience a wonderful Barock Church, a Brewery , a short hiking tours to a natural valley and an underground boot Tripp.
On Saturday, June 15, our group of international students from Ulm set off on a day trip to Lake Constance in the pouring rain. We traveled by train, bus and ferry to Constance, where the sun rose as soon as we arrived. Our tour of the historic old town could therefore begin under ideal conditions.

In addition to our activities on excursions and events, ASSIST also offers support in learning German in tandems.
This is not German lessons in the classical format but is based on personal exchange of topics determined by the learner.
The focus is on the ability to hear, understand, interpret and use language in response.
Therefore, we focus on communication in German, the existing gaps are supplemented with English and also with the explanation in German.
This is intended to overcome barriers to speak in German.
ASSIST and Leo Leutze offered on 25th Mai 2024 the opportunity to participate in the design of a board game including the rule set.
Three Student and two Assist SCs participated.
Leo is a former Physics Teacher and has already, during his active time, developed games to support the lessons.

In perfect hiking weather, we set off from Schelklingen railroad station through the May-green Achtal valley to Hohle Fels. This huge cave was the site where the so-called “Venus of Hohle Fels” was found in 2008. The figure, carved from mammoth ivory, is 40,000 years old and the oldest depiction of a human found anywhere in the world.

Ravensburg, the picturesque town in the heart of southern Germany, is a gem to be discovered. With its charming medieval old town, lively cultural scene and picturesque surroundings, Ravensburg offers a delightful mix of history, art and nature. ASSIST visited this fascinating destination on 20 April with a small group of international students from 5 different countries, accompanied by ASSIST advisors.

On 6th April 2024 the Assist Excursion took place to Friedrichshafen at the lake of Konstanz . The theme of the Excursion was “the City, the Lake & technical History” in the famous city of Friedrichshafen.

Such traditional events take place, especially in southern Germany.

As 2023 draws to a close once again, it’s time to look back on ASSIST’s activities in 2023. For us, 2023 was a very eventful but also successful year.
The number of Senior Consultants increased positively to 17 by the end of November.
As the year 2023 is ending we offered the last Excursion on the 9th of December to the two locations museum and Christmas market in Esslingen.:

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and have been excited that also this year we have had the ASSIST Christmas Party! As we gather to celebrate the season, we did come together to share the joy, laughter, and gratitude that make this time so special.
At the 7th December 2023 we could welcome 19 Students and 11 Senior Consultants in the Villa Eberhard.
