Zwiefalten, Aachtal and Wimsener Höhle – Places to be on a hot and sunny day

Accompanied by students from four different countries, we first took the train from Ulm to Riedlingen on the Danube and then continued our journey by bus to Zwiefalten. Given the hot weather outside, it was a real relief to step into the cool interior of the cathedral and catch our first glimpse of the Baroque splendor of the interior.
Afterward, we followed the small Aach River upstream to the Wimsener Grotto. At the agreed-upon time, we boarded the small boat and set off into the cool cave with its crystal-clear water. Because of the rocky outcroppings, we had to be careful not to bump our heads or fingers. Everyone admired the beauty of the cave, even though only a 70-meter stretch is navigable by boat. The total length is 1,260 meters.

After a break, we headed back. Everyone cooled off with a foot bath in the cold river water. As we walked along the river, we marveled at the numerous fish in the water.
To wrap things up, we visited the Zwiefalten Cathedral Chapter once more and took a closer look at the many fascinating sculptures, paintings, and stucco works.
