Lake Constance – Always Worth a Visit

ASSIST Excursion to Konstanz and Meersburg

Lake Constance was once again the destination for an ASSIST field trip in 2026. The weather on June 13 couldn’t have been better. The sun was shining brightly in a blue sky, and even the journey there was a pleasure. We covered the first part from Ulm to Ravensburg by regional train. From Ravensburg, we continued by bus to Meersburg, where the entire regional bus was loaded onto the ferry to Constance. During the crossing, getting off the bus was permitted “as an exception.”

Konstanz: In Konstanz, the Ulm students heard stories — both big and small — during a guided city tour about the beginnings of settlement, the Roman era, the Middle Ages, the years of the famous Council, all the way up to the founding of the university and the emergence of street art just a few years ago. Of course, there was still time to enjoy the vibrant life of today’s university town on their own before heading back by bus and ferry to picturesque Meersburg.

Meersburg: The little town nestles against steep riverbanks on the opposite shore. We explored the palace and the castle, the alleys and narrow streets, souvenir shops, and beer gardens, going up and down stairs. The tour finally ended at the best ice cream shop in town.

Fortified by summer’s sweetest temptation, the ASSIST group set off on the final part of their journey back to Ulm.
