A Journey Through the History of „Upper Swabia“
Visit to a Baroque Library and an Open Air Museum in Bad Schussenried

On Saturday 30th May 2026 we started with a a group of students from 4 different countries (and 3 continents!) to discover the country life of “Oberschwaben” south of Ulm over the last 600 years.
About Rural Life in former Centuries
The first stop was the “Museumsdorf Kürnbach“ where we explored the open-air museum with its unique farmhouses, their rooms and workshops as well as cottage gardens, all just as they were up to 600 years ago. All of the houses are centuries old and were dismantled piece by piece at their original locations and rebuilt at the museum. In the guided tour we learnt about the – less romantic but rather harsh – rural life style and could make hands-on experiences!

Impressive Baroque Library
After a relaxing lunch break in the nice beer garden setting of the Museumscafe we hiked about 45 min into the nice little town of Bad Schussenried where we visited the Monastery Schussenried. It originates in the 12th century and looks back to changeful history. The highlight is certainly the amazing colourful Baroque Library: flooded with natural light, the ornately decorated two-story high hall is one of the most significant architectural examples of that era in southern Germany.
After enjoying an afternoon coffee on the historic market place of Bad Schussenried the group returned home full of new impressions!
