ASSIST Day Trip to Hohenzollern Castle

On April 26, an ASSIST excursion to Hohenzollern Castle took place, which met with great interest among the international students.

Inside the castle
“Burg Hohenzollern” is a fairly unique castle near Hechingen, south of Tübingen, still belonging to the noble family Hohenzollern from which many Prussian and German kings and emperors have descended. Even the first steps entering the castle have brought spectacular scenery: The way winds up in serpentines through several doors and over some bridges, which made defense of the castle easy in former times.
A flag flown on one of the castle towers indicated that some important member of the noble family was present on that day.
Besides the private rooms, two floors of rooms and halls were open to the public, nicely equipped with original furniture, tableware, portraits of former members of the family, and many other items. These rooms included a large banquet hall, still used for special festivities of the princes and princesses.

Of particular impression was the treasure chamber where we could inspect a lot of royal jewelry, the king’s crown, noble weapons, personal decorations and many items more. At the end, some of us relaxed in the castle’s beer garden – although the weather was quite cold, as Hohenzollern Castle is on a solitary mountain.
