International Students meet Ulm Mayor Bendel

ASSIST event: Being guests at Ulm City Hall with the First Mayor, Martin Bendel.

Eleven students from seven countries and three continents, from the universities of Ulm (UNI-Ulm), Ulm University of Applied Sciences (THU) and Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU), were guests at Ulm City Hall at the invitation of First Mayor Martin Bendel. This visit was organized by ASSIST and supported by the city administration. The aim was to introduce the students to the city and its three universities.

After a presentation by Mayor Bendel on city politics, the municipal constitution and current issues in the municipal council, there was a lively discussion. The students asked questions about the biggest challenges Ulm faces, not just in terms of roads, the mayor’s cultural recommendations and the meaning of the Federal Garden Show (“Bundesgartenschau”).

The students then enjoyed a guided tour of the town hall.
The tour focused on the history of the building, the previous Lord Mayors who had served there, the influence of Albert Ludwig Berblinger (“The Ulm Tailor”, who had built a hang glider in early 19th century ) and, of course, Albert Einstein, on the city’s history. ASSIST and the city representatives, especially Martin Bendel, agreed that this visit should be repeated in autumn. The mayor concluded with the statement, “Welcome to Ulm!”
