Airships, Satellites and Pedal Boats – an eventful Excursion to Friedrichshafen

An impressively international group of Ulm students joined the ASSIST excursion on May 24, 2025. 11 young people from 10 different countries traveled by train with two ASSIST senior consultants to Friedrichshafen.

First the group visited the Dornier Museum next to Friedrichshafen Airport where they happened to see a Zeppelin NT taking off for a leisure flight. Inside the museum, a variety of aircraft are on display. “This is just great”, was the comment of one member of the group.

The Dornier Space exhibition on the first floor was impressive as well. It displays models of many ESA satellites and probes that have been sent into space over the past several decades. It was a special moment for Senior Consultant Petra Wieland. She had been on the development team of one such space project in her professional life and could provide interesting insights.

The afternoon was dedicated to the Zeppelin Museum on the shore of Lake Constance. Visitors could experience the century-old fascination with multi-day airship travel at the Zeppelin Museum. All participants learned a lot about Friedrichshafen’s aviation history. Some stayed in the museum until closing at 5:00 p.m. Others enjoyed the sunny, lively promenade and the view from the Moleturm a bit longer, or rented a pedal boat to enjoy the evening sun on Lake Constance.
