A Visit to Sigmaringen Castle

On March 21, 2026, ASSIST organized an excursion to Sigmaringen. This is a medium-sized picturesque old town south-west of Ulm. Its history dates back more than 1000 years. Its main attraction is the „Hohenzollern Castle“ in the city center. Our group arrived by train in Sigmaringen at about 10:00h. On our walk to the castle, we tried to pick up some historical dates of important land marks of the city, but unfortunately the Audio App offered by the city did not work well on our mobile phones. So, we were happy to get audio guides for the castle visit providing detailed information of the history.

Breath-taking interior of the castle

The castle impressed us with its magnificent halls, ornate ceilings, valuable furnishings, and an extraordinary atmosphere that brings history to life. A particular highlight is the presentation of one of the largest private collections of weapons in Europe, offering insights into hunting, military, and courtly culture of past centuries.

A Parc open to all respectable people
In the afternoon, we moved on to the Princely Park of Inzigkofen. Also known as the Princely Gardens of Inzigkofen, it is a Romantic-era landscape garden with culturally and historically significant garden architecture. The park was laid out between 1811 and 1829. In the second half of the 19th century, Prince Karl Anton permitted that „every respectable person (i.e. not only noble people!) was allowed to stroll in the local parks“! Several land marks like the „Amalienfelsen“ and the devil’s bridge brought further highlights to our excursion.
