A visit to the Bavarian Alps.

On 30 August 2025, ASSIST organised a day trip to Oberstdorf.
‚Move your body and enjoy one of the most beautiful parts of Germany‘ was the motto of the ASSIST day trip.
Situated in the south-east of Bavaria, Oberstdorf is part of the ‚Allgäu‘, i.e. the foothill area of the Alps. This area is characterised by traditional architecture, green meadows, woodland, cattle farming, and proximity to the high peaks of the Alps. The ASSIST student group travelled by train directly to Oberstdorf and continued by bus to a hiking trail.

Hiking alongside streams is a great way to socialise; you can share experiences, enjoy the natural surroundings, and learn about plants, wildlife, and the history of mountain farming. The group had lunch in a cabin (known as an ‚Alpe‘ in German). Farmers live there in the mountains during the summer and make cheese in a traditional way.
After returning to Oberstdorf, the students had some time to enjoy the picturesque old houses of Germany’s southernmost town.
